I have been at Perth Scuba since january 2005 after completing my open water in december ’04 as a gruaduation present from my parents. While i completed an electronic engineering diploma, i worked part time, worked my way through courses and finished my divemaster in 2006.

When I started diving I was hooked on ship wrecks, since then my diving ambitions haven’t changed that much. They include:

  • Diving the WWII wrecks of Truk Lagoon
  • Dive on both a submarine wreck, and an aircraft carrier.
  • Get a big ugly Digital SLR Camera (with housing), Strobes hanging off, and a wide angle lense.

Diving Locations outside of Australia: Bali, South Africa, Fiji, Solomon Islands

My Favourite Dive Sites in WA: Seal Cove in Albany. It has everything – huge gorgonians, masses of soft corals, and reef formations with amazing visability….

Best Ever Dive: USS Liberty, Tulumben. It was an American merchant ship that was torpedoed by a Japanese Submarine in WW II. The nearby valcanic rock the size of melons can make the shore entry rather interesting but the 8 meter swim to it makes up for that… It has everything you could dream of. The bottom sits in 30 meters, and the shipwreck is covered in soft corals, gorgonians, nudibranch’s, staghorn coral with fish every colour of the rainbow, anenome’s along with clown fish. The highest point is at 3 meters – perfect for a safety stop.

Worst Ever Dive: Not feeling to good on a surgy dive at Crystal Palace, and having to make the decision whether to “upchuck” through my reg or to take it out.

Favourite piece of dive equipment: My Thermal-Tec wetsuit. So warm and toasty I still use it right  through winter. And my Olympus 720 which accompanies me on most dives.

Best thing I have found while diving: Nemo!

Why I love diving: Shipwrecks. They are mini time capsules, trapping history for a moment as the ship went down. Diving around Perth, there are so many things to see, and everytime you dive, something has changed since you were last there. Love sharing tall stories about crayfish as big as your leg, or everyones “The Dive From Hell”. Also doing Discover Scuba’s, and helping out on courses… watching people learn to dive is amazing.
