2011 Underwater Festival draws to a close…

Today is the last day that competition entries can be sent in for Perth Scuba’s fringe event underwater photography competition. Entries close at 5pm and will be judged over the weekend. With prizes up for grabs ranging from Travel Vouchers to BCD’s and regulators, there are plenty of reasons to get your photos in! Remember there is a category for just having an entry in so you don’t have to be a “Shannon Conway” to win a great prize.

Tonight at 6.30pm we will be presenting the finalists of the entries and giving away the great prizes on offer.

The competition for the overall underwater festival has been strong and while Perth metro area conditions weren’t the best, divers still managed to come up with some fantastic entries. We wish them all well in the major competition.

Underwater Festival 2011

Held annually, the 5th Underwater Festival™ 2011 (UF11) will be the biggest one yet. With the tagline ‘The Australasia Challenge’ it will incorporate an Australasia-wide simultaneous photo and video shootout competition like no other with nearly U$150,000 in prizes.

UF11 will feature a shootout competition that happens simultaneous all over Australasia – 25 countries spanning both hemispheres – every dive you can imagine will be a shootout locality, every dive centre, liveaboard, resort in the area will facilitate this new kind of shootout. You can dive your local favourite spots, go out with your dive club or shore dive with your buddy

Become part of this huge event and not unlike an underwater ‘Earth Hour’ help to highlight the underwater beauty but also the underwater issues of this fantastic bioregion and help to show the world what we’ve got to lose.

The Western Australian Underwater Photographic Society, proudly supported by Perth Scuba will be one of dozens of Underwater Festival Fringe Events that are planned all over Australasia during the 10-day shootout period. During the festival Perth Scuba will be home to WAUPS informative seminars, free underwater photography equipment trials, discounted PADI Digital Underwater Photography courses and of course plenty of diving.

The top 100 images will be showcased at the new Australian Dive & Tavel Expo ODEX in Brisbane on the second weekend in October 2011. A whole hall will be devoted to the Festival and seminars as well as the Underwater Festival Awards will be held during the 3 days of ODEX 2011.

Perth Scuba & WAUPS Photography Competition

Perth Scuba has been donated some AWESOME prizes from Allways Dive Travel, PADI, Scubapro Uwatec & Shannon Conway for our very own Underwater Festival Competition for all photographs taken in Western Australia during the festival. Same rules as the Underwater Festival with the added rule that pics must be taken in WA but it’s FREE to enter, plus you can have up to 3 entries per person!
