A night of scuba at Bicton Baths

Perth Scuba Manta Club Dive Bicton Baths 15Aug2013

written by Matthias Liffers – Perth Scuba PADI Divemaster

The diving gods were kind to us and gave us a beautiful night under a half moon. Six of us descended on Bicton Baths to say hi to the aquatic creepy crawlies that come out at night.

Ryan gave us his best Michael Jackson impersonation before we strapped on our gear and jumped off the jetty to see what was living around the pylons. An “interesting” thermocline occasionally obscured our view, but didn’t stop us from spotting crabs or the seahorses that had anchored themselves to a sunken palm frond. A few prawns were also scooting about, but none of us were looking to fill our cook pots.

We got back to shore, where somebody *cough cough* discovered that he had left his headlights on and had to stay back for the RAC to come and resurrect his car. (Pro tip: remember to turn your lights off if you use them to see when you’re gearing up).
