Bicton Baths Manta Club Dive
Having seen my garden furniture disappearing over the fence and down the street the night before, I didn’t hold out much hope of anyone turning up on Sunday morning, but this is the Perth Scuba dive club after all, and I should have had more faith…
With three diehard divers getting stuck into the bacon sandwiches hot off the BBQ before the staff seagulls swooped in, we headed for Bicton Baths with one mission…to find the fabled wreck. Now, don’t expect us to tell you how to find it here, you’ll have to come along next time, but needless to say, the smiles on everyone’s faces after the dive were even bigger than the ones on the predive picture! It really is a fantastic fishing boat wreck, about 10m long, upright and fully in tact and great for exploring its nooks and crannies for an impressive array of flora and fauna. The interior is quite tight and definitely not for the inexperienced. I got pictures of Sweeper, Cobbler, Fanbellied Leatherjacket, juvenile Samson fish, Biscuit Starfish, an amazing nudibranch on the fallen mooring line, funky looking yellow and pink polyps, and just an orgy of paired up Blue swimming crabs at it all over the shop! And then back airside into the other world again all too soon. Can’t wait to do it as a night dive. See you then.
