Conquering the Sand Dune of Death

written by Sarah Toohey – Perth Scuba PADI Divemaster

The impending ‘Sand Dune of Death’ didn’t baulk our keen night diving crew as we geared up for our Wednesday night, Manta Club dive on the 12th March 2014.

Perth Scuba Manta Club Night Dive Robb Jetty 12Mar2014 (1)-2

Robb Jetty can be elusive to some, even in the daylight, but this night, expectations were high.

From the beach, the light show under the waves from the divers that had hit the water a little earlier was impressive and somewhat eerie… considering these pools of light were not exactly anywhere near the dive site we were targeting or the sea-grass beds that lie to the South of the sunken pylons. This didn’t deter our bubble-blowing navigators from being convinced that this time they would finally find the dive site!

And what a great balmy night to enjoy the dive! The water was refreshing and clear and none of the surge we had some concerns about.

Needless to say, some missed the jetty, others ‘stumbled’ across the jetty and our youngest team of avid divers found it straight up reporting octopus feeding, groupers (apparently…) and just a great experience around this site in general.

Another spectacular evening out with some brilliant peeps. Look forward to seeing you all at the next Manta Club event!
