Put Ocean Protection on the Earth Day Map

Join Project AWARE Foundation’s Dive for Earth Day

During the week of April 22nd, scuba divers worldwide are set to give the ocean a voice with Project AWARE Dive For Earth Day events around the globe. Show your appreciation for our ocean planet and help us raise awareness of the many challenges it is facing by joining Perth Scuba Dive for Earth Day Cleanup of Point Walter Reserve.

Since 1999, Project AWARE Foundation and AWARE divers worldwide have put ocean protection on April’s Earth Day agenda with global Dive For Earth Day events to make sure underwater conservation is not overlooked.

Dive for Earth Day is an extraordinary opportunity to take action and help address the underwater issues that concern you most. Perth Scuba, in partnership with Project AWARE is organizing a Beach and Underwater Cleanup and collecting Give Sharks a Fighting Chance petition signatures.

Divers, snorkelers, their families and friends can help make a difference by calling Perth Scuba at 9455 4448.

80 percent of the world’s biodiversity lives in the sea. Most people appreciate the beauty of the underwater world, but awareness of aquatic biodiversity, how seriously it is threatened, and the implications for human wellbeing, is alarmingly low.

To date, nearly 2,000 activities and thousands of dive volunteers have focused on underwater cleanups, mooring buoy installation projects, reef surveys and much more.

“As work towards solutions grows, divers are becoming uniquely positioned and critical voices to affect change. No other group has the complete view of the issues affecting our ocean planet, as well as the motivation, skills and training to do something about it” comments Jenny Miller Garmendia, Project AWARE Foundation Director.

Project AWARE Foundation is a nonprofit organisation working with divers to conserve underwater environments through education, advocacy and action. Take action during Earth Day, April 22nd. Dive in by joining Perth Scuba at Point Walter Reserve on Sunday 17th April @ 9am.
