Beautiful Palau Diving:

Diving in Palau by liveaboard affords the avid diver the opportunity to explore the nation’s varied andPalau Siren Itinerary spectacular dive sites. Laying between the Philippine Sea and northern Pacific Ocean, these limestone islands surrounded by crystal clear cobalt blue water are home to a dazzling array of marine life. Divers travelling to Palau can expect to see a variety of reef sharks, huge schools of jacks and barracuda, manta and eagle rays, Napoleon wrasse and batfish coupled with many critters and impressive corals. Drift dives are the norm and there are plenty of wrecks to visit and of course no liveaboard dive safari would be complete without a visit to the now-famous “Jelly Fish Lake”.

Departing from Koror, the S/Y Palau Siren will dive the wrecks around Koror harbour before cruising to Ulong Channel & the Rock Islands, Ngerchu – for some speedy drift dives and Peleliu Island. We will snorkel in Jelly Fish Lake, where these cnidarians, that have lost their stinging cells, swarm in huge numbers. During our 10 night itineraries we also visit the further most island of Angaur and dive sites to the north at Badeldaob Island. Many of the channels have strong currents and reef hooks are an essential piece of diving equipment, however diving here is suitable for all levels of experience.

Blue CornerPalau Micronesia scuba diving Johanna Pool
A “big”site and perhaps the most famous dive site in Palau, Blue Corner has steep sheer walls and an abundance of fish life. Strong currents bring plenty of blacktip, whitetip and grey reef sharks, schools of jacks and huge Napoleon wrasse, turtles and colourful reef fish are seen also in the coral gardens. The best diving is between 15m/50ft and 25m/80ft and use of reef hooks is advised for the best chance to enjoy the shark action.

German Channel
Formed in the 1900s when German miners blasted a straight waterway through the coral to transport their phosphates, this site is now famed for its appeal to manta rays that are common visitors to the coral bommies at just 15m/ 50ft. The channel is over 1km long and allows for fabulous drift dives and despite the blasting the coral bommies attract plenty of fish species.

Iro WreckHawksbill Turtle
A Japanese oil supply ship – sunk during World War II by American forces – lies upright in just 20m/65ft of clear blue water close to the harbour of Koror. The bow is encrusted with corals and the gun mounted there is clearly visible as you descend the mooring line. Large groupers are commonly seen whilst schools of batfish hover above.

Peleliu Cut
A fast paced drift dive is often experienced at the southern tip of Peleliu Island. Different shark species along with tuna, barracuda, sweetlips and rainbow runners, schools of jacks and snappers make this anexhilarating and very “fishy” dive. The vertical walls drop to around 30m/100ft and are covered with tube corals and sponges attracting colourful butterfly and angel fish as well as green and hawksbill turtles.

Palau is 7 degrees north of the equator and enjoys a warm tropical climate year round. Temperatures average 27°C (82°F) while water temperatures average a pleasant 27°C (82°F) as well. As a tropical island Palau is subject to rainfall throughout the year though more frequently between July and October. Diving, however, is excellent year around with high season considered to be November through May.
The warm tropical waters of Palau are pleasant throughout the year averaging 27°C (82 °F). Most guests find that a 3mm wetsuit or shorty is suitable and many dive with just a skin. For guests who tend to get cold easily, especially after repetitive dives, we recommend bringing whatever you feel most comfortable in.
