Fantastic sunset at Point Peron

Manta Club divers at Point Peron

Yet another fantastic sunset at the Point and 8 keen divers to enjoy it. With little swell and no waves we heading straight out passed the seagrass  heading for the inner labyrinth when a Red Gurnard took off underneath me, exposing its truly mind blowing colourful wings. Continuing we were treated to +10-12m viz that kept four of us in a nice loose group digging into holes and discovering many archways that led from one mini lagoon to the next and the next.

Cute cat shark at Point Peron

As I handed off some kelp going through one sump a Blackspotted Catshark met me face on and provided a great couple of minutes’ photo opportunity. Shortly after, a peer into the depths of a deep ledge revealed a Western Wobbegong shark, which after advancing for a better look at me then turned and disappeared deep into the reef. After some Herring Cale shooting out, a Western Smooth Boxfish and a couple of huge Crays, I was treated to another Catshark, but alas the camera battery died.

Amazingly we surfaced together back at the dive flag and in good voice headed back to the car park, and no one complaining about being cold as in water was a lovely 23oC.

Cow fish

The kelp at Point Peron hides a lot of the best stuff, and I’m learning that its a place to get your nose buried into to really appreciate it.¬†
