Lembeh Strait, Manado

by Joey Pool

The weird and the wonderful(pus) is what you have to expect when diving in Lembeh Strait, Manado. Joey and Lee were lucky enough to be invited to explore this fascinating part of the world.

Lembeh Strait is simply the best place in the world for macro photography! Lembeh plays host to a cornucopia of weird and wonderful creatures to be found there alone. They moor over shallow black sandy slopes, where seahorses and nudibranchs are in abundance. Then there are the Inimicus devilfish, dwarf lionfish, scorpionfish, pufferfish, octopus, pegasus sea moths, frogfish, ribbon eels and flying gunnards. Truly a one-off opportunity for all photographers and anyone looking for the unusual and unseen, you’re sure to see something that you have never seen before, no matter how experienced you are.

The exceptional year-round weather conditions provide a variety of diving experiences, from “muck dives” on pure black volcanic sand to colourful coral reefs and enticing historic wrecks. Whatever your pleasure, Lembeh is always sure to offer fascinating and exciting underwater discoveries. And best of all it’s an absolute MECCA for the underwater photographer!

Perth Scuba will be returning to Lembeh Strait in October 2013, led by Professional Underwater Photographer Shannon Conway. Shannon will be running workshops, presentations and helping you improve your photography in this tropical paradise filled with photogenic critters.
