Kwinana Grain Terminal jetty dive

Kwinana Grain Terminal

Sunday 31 December 2018

Manta Club dive

It’s always a guessing game as to who’s going to turn up on Sunday morning, but I was glad that there were 12 other people like me who had had enough of being around relatives and looking for a chance to escape the Yuletide terrestrial world for a hour or so. And Kwinana Grain Terminal jetty did not disappoint. What fantastic viz! The jetty’s 14m across – I measured it on Google Earth… and underwater that morning we could easily-ish see pylons on the far side so I reckon we can claim a decent +8m horizontal viz that morning.
Heading straight for the best stuff around half way down the jetty made for fantastic opportunities to get up close with the small critters and take in some spectacular views of the shafts of light piercing the beautiful warm 23oC morning water.
I clocked up 27 species photographed and won’t bore you with them all but; Finger Dragonet, pregnant Seahorses, at least four Octopus and baby cuttlefish were among the highlights.
Now we just need some easterlies and we might get north of the river for once?!
