Crabs, flat head, cobbler and squid at Bicton Baths

written by Dane Fielder – Perth Scuba PADI Dive Master

Everyone arrived at Bicton baths Wednesday night 10/09/2014. When we started to kit up one of the divers realized that he had left his computer at home. Luckily one of the other divers had a spare backup computer on his first stage so after a bit of spanner action the group was ready to go diving.

It was decided that everyone was going to go for prawns and another couple of guys just came to watch. After a short surface swim to the first boat moorings, we made our descent to the bottom. After about one minute of diving we spotted two of the biggest crabs I had ever seen. The only problem was no one had a catch bag so we left them for next time.

After seeing plenty of sized crabs, small flat head, cobbler, mantis shrimp looking things and squid we finally started to get some prawns around 13m. One of the guys even doubled his personal best: two prawns instead of one. After about forty minutes of swimming around in murky 17 degrees water one of the guys signaled me. He was getting low on his air so we turned around and made our way back to shore.
After a little debrief we packed up our gear and made our way home.
