Bait ball munches happily at Bicton Baths

written by Dane Fielder – Perth Scuba PADI Instructor

We arrived at Bicton Baths Wednesday 15/10/14 at 7pm. Only a few guys showed up, a couple of regulars and one new. Two had prawn nets and the other two were spotters, the perfect team.

As we made our way out to the deep we spotted a bait ball of small black and white striped fish feeding from the bottom. Then some nice sized flat head started to appear and some decent sized crabs. Once we got to around 13m the prawns came out of hiding and made there way into our nets.

During 45mins of diving in 19 degrees water we came across baby flounder, cobbler, blowies and plenty of crabs full eggs. Our max depth was 15.6 and the viz was standard for Bicton. Once we got down to 100 bar we made our way back to shore catching prawns as we went. We also came across a baby eagle ray on the way back in.

Great night out just getting into 5mm weather!! So get down for the next club dive!
