Who said the river equals bad viz?

written by Simon Kong – Perth Scuba PADI Divemaster

Started the morning with an awesome BBQ made by one of our dedicated manta divers Kristy-Lee Morris. Thank you very much Kristy, the BBQ was awesome!

This weekend, (Sunday 25 May) the weather was not ideal, with high wind and big waves. So we decided to give The Coombe a try. As we arrived at the site, we were welcome by Blake and his students finishing their wreck diver course, Ryan who was helping a DMT finish his search and recovery and a few fully kitted rebreather divers who was installing PVC pipes every 5 metres to “connect” the wrecks under water. Basically, The Coombe was a busy place, crawling with divers.

Viz was an awesome 5 to 7 metres today, and using the newly laidd PVC pipes and ropes, finding the wrecks was much much easier. Saw a few sea horses on the wrecks. Overall, a very nice dive.

PS. one of the ropes/PVC pipes goes to the deeper wrecks, we were advised by the rebreather divers that going this route without a twin set or sidemount is not recommended. So keep that in mind if you are going out and following those.
