Rain, swell and wind won’t stop us diving!

Manta Club Dive – The Coombe, Mosman Park

It was a very wet Sunday morning on 13 August 2017, we had 3.6m ocean swells and strong fast wind and so we were forced to make a last-minute decision to move our club dive location to the river. The Coombe Reserve in Mosman Park was once again the go-to place when the weather hits hard.

4 brave divers turned up at 8:30am sharp for the sausage sizzle and then we all headed to the dive site a short while later. When we got there, we bumped into a few other familiar faces who were there for a dive course. We kitted up and after a dive brief, we were in the water by 9:45am. 2 of the more experienced divers decided they want to go wreck hunting and proceeded as buddies.

I took the other 2 of our newer divers out to explore the wall to the right of the carpark. It was a cold 16deg in the water with viz of around 5m.  We got down to about 12m and saw lots of jellyfish and starfish. We also saw a lonely seahorse and a crab. 20mins into the dive the viz was getting worse with the brown tint so we decided to head East to shallower water. We finished off our dive at the 45min mark and were greeted with light rain on the surface. It was cold but we were all smiles.
