Solomon Islands new tour dates confirmed in 2021

Solomon Islands new tour dates confirmed in 2021

2020… I don’t think I need to say any more than that. 2020 will no doubt go down in history as one year we would all like to forget but as long as you don’t live in Victoria at the moment there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

Perth Scuba travel has always been a big thing and 2020 was scheduled to be as big as ever with 7 overseas dive trips planned (and cancelled due to Covid-19).

Thankfully as soon as international travel looked like it was off the cards, we contacted our booking agents and managed to move all of our trips one year back so we would still be able to enjoy our dive trips and have something cool to look forward to after all of the stress and craziness of the last 5 months.

Although most of the trips were full, due to changes a few places have come available on a few of the trips. That is great news for those of you who missed out because of work, finances, relationships or whatever other reason ☺

In each newsletter for the next few weeks I will do a small article on one of Perth Scuba’s upcoming dive destinations.

Today we start with a favourite of mine… The Solomon Islands.

Situated North East of Australia (ex Brisbane), The Solomon Islands is a group of islands with a colourful history and a very diverse area which has become a dive destination for many over the years.

My first overseas dive trip was to the Solomon Islands and whilst they say your first overseas dive trip is always the best, I have to rank it pretty highly in the destinations I have been lucky enough to have been diving.

The Solomon Islands, (Sollies as we like to call it) has pristine reef, an abundant marine life including sharks, Manta Rays, Schooling Skip Jack Trevally and so much more to the smaller Macro fish and all of the favourites like Clown Fish and all of the other critters that you would want to see and of course for the rust lovers… Wrecks!!

World War II visited the Solomon Islands with some fairly well known battles – some of which the results directly affected the outcome of the war. Familiar sounding places such as “Iron Bottom Sound” named after the sheer number of wrecks that lie at the bottom of a very deep and very calm channel of water between the mainland and what was once the capital of the Solomon Islands – Tulaghi.  Traveling across the water towards Tulaghi over the sound which at parts is nearly 2km deep, it’s hard to imagine the carnage that lies beneath from one World War II’s fiercest battles… The battle of the Guadal Canal. Its surreal to be where it all went on and the historical data that has been collated on this area and the battles that took place are very well documented in an amazing War Memorial in the now capital city Honiara in a location overlooking Iron Bottom Sound and the whole of Honiara. The battles are explained step by step from the arrival of the first US ships to the sinking of the last ship with its guns still firing skyward as she sank beneath the sea never to be seen again… Some of the ships and planes however are in shallower depths and make the perfect place to see the ferocious results of war first hand.

Our trip in June runs from the 18th to the 26th of June 2021. The Solomon Islands has had ZERO cases of Covid -19 which makes for a very safe diving destination.

The trip includes return flights to Honiara ex Brisbane, 7 nights on board Solomon Master Dive vessel diving the best of the Solomon Islands. The trip includes all meals on board, 4 dives per day and one night accommodation in Honiara at the end of the trip and is sure to be one of the best wreck & reef dive locations you will ever visit. Clear calm and warm waters filled with a variety of marine life in numbers rarely seen these days.

Perth Scuba has booked the whole boat and as a result will be working with the Solomons Master to put together an excellent Itinerary for both wreck and reef. There are 20 places available on the trip and currently we have 5 places left.

The trip is normally around $7,000 but as an introductory offer to Perth Scuba we have been given this trip for $5249.

This price includes flights ex Brisbane, transfers, 7 nights with full board (food and drinks (alcohol not included) on board Solomons Master, 4 dives per day and as much fun as you can handle!

Your tour leader on this trip is ME! This will be my fourth trip to the Sollies and I can’t wait!

If you would like to join me, or would like more information on diving and visiting the Sollies, please email me – [email protected]  or call the shop on 9455 4448.

I hope you can join this great trip! (All levels of divers are welcome) We will have some techies diving on rebreathers and we will have single tank bubble blowers… dive sites will be chosen to make sure everyone gets to dive some of the most well-known and fantastic dive sites.

Concerned about booking an overseas dive trip due to COVID-19?  Don’t be… our booking agents have excellent working relationships with the operators we use and as of the 1st of August, any trip which is postponed due to COVID 19 will be covered to transfer to the same trip at a later date or if a suitable replacement date can’t be found, we can move your deposit over to another cool trip that does suit you at a different date.

*Please note that once flights have been booked in your name, airlines will generally only offer credits – not refunds. Credits can however be used on any flights offered by that airline.
