The very basics of Underwater PhotographyWhat do you want to get out of underwater photography? Are you looking for holiday snaps? Are you looking for photos that you can show at club meetings and perhaps share with the Facebook world? Do you want to keep up with the Joneses or stand a chance in photo comps? Are you thinking about a career as a professional underwater photographer? These are questions that you need to ask yourself when buying an underwater camera… outfit. Your answers determine what you buy.

Danny will walk us through everything you need to know about underwater photography equipment including cameras, housings, o-rings, wet lenses, strobes and sync cords. Perfect for beginners or those wanting to give underwater photography a try.

Danny started diving around 12 years ago with little interest in photography. But he soon found he couldn’t adequately describe the strange creatures and beautiful scenery that he was seeing, so remembering the adage that “a picture paints a thousand words” he saved and bought his first underwater camera, a Sea&Sea Motor Marine II. Since then, Danny has dived Mauritius, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, New Guinea, Solomon Isles, Fiji and Vanuatu as well as the coast of Western Australia including the Abrolhos Isles and the Rowley Shoals. Danny now shoots with a Sea&Sea DX1G with twin YS 27 strobes.

This is an Underwater Festival 2011 special presentation by the WA Underwater Photographic Society and Perth Scuba.
